It's been almost three decades since BT's 'Its Good To Talk' adverts hit our TV screens featuring Bob Hoskins and Maureen Lipman. Well its seems that now this phrase couldn't be truer, whether it's in our personnel lives or on a professional level.
Whilst there is still a huge amount of uncertainty as to how business will develop and grow coming out of lockdown, it's never been more crucial to keep in touch with existing customers but more importantly is that this is the time to connect with potential new clients.
I'm finding that people are now more willing to take my call, which is great when you specialise in new business development. Could it be that they might have slightly more time on their hands or that they are now open to making those new connections? Of course you need to do your homework, research the companies/contacts and make sure that those telemarketing calls are relevant and backed up with strong focused one-to-one marketing, plus you need to think about how the current situation could be affecting their business and demonstrate that you understand their marketplace.
It's important to also look at your overall marketing strategy, (website, social media, PR), however talking on the phone can strengthen your connections and build rapport. Hearing their reaction, inflection, and tone of voice will help you understand their needs and can only heighten your communication skills with that person.
I've had a couple of hours entertainment in the name of research this morning watching some of the old BT adverts and my favourite is Maureen Lipman in the 'Ology' what's yours?
